How often should our equipment be checked?
It is recommend that you get your equipment serviced annually so ask yourself the question. When was your equipment last checked and is it due for a professional service to give yourself that extra peace of mind and confidence when you fly?
The BHPA recommend that reserves are checked and repacked annually and if you can every 6 months to get the fastest possible opening times. In the UK, even a second delay in the reserve becoming 100% functioning could make a difference because we tend to fly at lower altitudes whilst ridge soaring.
How important is it to check your equipment? If you wonder whether it is important to get your equipment checked then the below facts from our years of experience should help you make up your mind:
- 1 in 5 parachutes has a fault
- 1 in 10 reserves would not have opened as they were designed to do so
- We find problems with 50% of gliders serviced
- 1 in 20 gliders were found to be totally unairworthy and in need of urgent repair
The above statistics are worrying at best and could one day prove fatal if left unchecked and your equipment fails whilst in use. It is hard to know what condition your equipment is really in without an annual check and often a visual check doesn’t give you the full picture.
Our service in more detail
We service and repair all makes and models of paragliders and hang gliders and are a registered BHPA repair centre. We also inspect and re-pack all types of reserves only using registered and fully qualified BHPA approved packers.
We understand that pilots need their equipment and being without it for long periods of time mean lost flying days. Because of this all of our hang gliders, paragliders and reserves are pre-booked in on a Monday and completed by the following Friday.
The only exception to the above is when we need to order in spare parts from the manufacturer and this is normally only a delay of 2-3 days.
Reserves are completed and ready for collection or delivered back to you in 3 days. We do not do a while you wait service because reserves must be aired for 24 hours to allow any moisture to evaporate.
Our inspection and repair service is a highly detailed process in which we check all aspects of your glider. During the inspection we look for faults or deviations from the manufacturer’s specifications including but not limited to, lines, fabric, internal structure, stitching, fabric strength and multiple porosity checks.
We are the most experienced service centre for hang gliders and offer a full strip down, inspection and re-build service. We have hold a large range of replacement parts for all types of hang gliders and have access to all manufacturers to get express delivery of any parts we may require.
Our annual comprehensive and detailed paraglider inspection and service is £94.00 (under 1 week turn around)
Our thorough paraglider and hang glider reserve inspection and repack service is £64 (3-4 day turn around)
A thorough annual inspection and visual hang glider service is £82 (1 week turn around & some parts extra)
